Check out our latest UCC Competitor interview heading into 2023 UCC!

A few years ago, we implemented an Ultimate Callout Challenge qualifier event where teams who wanted into the big show had to prove themselves in an undercard. For Toronto native Shawn Elmhirst, things went very well. He ended up placing 5th overall in the qualifier. Now, heading into the 2023 event, he’s got a few years of experience under his belt and he has accepted his spot as an event competitor where he will give it his all once again.

Shawn claims that he loves competing in any sport at the highest level. A friend of his convinced him to go to the UCC in 2017 to watch and that was enough to push him over the edge. Now, a few years later, here we are. “The first year we attempted UCC, it was a thrash,” he said. “We worked super hard to get the truck ready and pulled into the show untested. Hit the dyno at 9:00 and at 9:15 we were using buckets to pick up the shrapnel from our engine.”

Shawn’s racing experience hasn’t always been with trucks, though. In fact, he started out as a youngin’ racing motocross and snowcross. Now, this racing passion has developed more and he’s involved in a lot more sled pulling and drag racing.

Out of his diesel performance accomplishments, believe it or not, his favorite is his quad cab. “My quad cab is pretty cool. It is over 1,000 horsepower, I sled pull with it at local fairs, it has been 6.84 at 102mph, and it still tows as a 6.0-liter,” he said. “As far as the race truck goes, we lost a lot of time with it due to COVID, but my plan for 2023 is to focus on it and make some progress.”

Heading into 2023, Shawn has a goal of being more organized with his UCC program and getting into the 5s with his competition truck. However, we all know what the chaos will be like leading up to the event. But, with the support of his team, family, and sponsors, you never know. Speaking of, Shawn tributed his support system.

“I have to say a huge thank you to Jesse and the entire team over at Warren Diesel. Those guys have gone above and beyond. Also, the crew at BD Diesel has been amazing and I couldn’t have done it without their support. Ben at R&E Tire and Charlie at KC Turbos has also been a huge help. Just thank you to everyone, Cody at Manley Motorsports, Yukon Gear, Truck Source Diesel, CP Carrillo, FASS, Suncoast Performance, Darcy, Ben, Jamie, and Matt at the shop, too.”
